This decanter set from Menu consists of a funnel with a loose sieve and
three different pieces that can be placed in the mouth of the funnel, depending on how oxidised you like your wine to be before
serving.
Most wines are enhanced by oxidisation, and simply opening the bottle a couple of hours before serving a bottle of wine is seldom
enough to bring out its full flavour. In order to do full justice to a bottle of wine, it should ideally be served in a decanter. The
most intriguing aspect of Menu’s new decanter set lies in the three different pieces that allow you to oxidise your wine in different
ways:
“Tranquille” is a curved tube that allows the wine to seep softly down one side of the decanter. The effect is somewhat like that of
carefully pouring wine directly from the bottle, but the funnel facilitates decanting while the loose sieve catches any unwanted sediment
or lees. “Tranquille” is particularly recommended for red wines more than 5-10 years-old.
“Spray” is a tube with five holes at the bottom. The wine pours in a fan-like form and runs down all sides of the decanter, so that
the wine is given greater finish and becomes more thoroughly oxidised. This method is particularly well suited for stronger wines,
which assume a softer and more robust texture.
“Oxidiser” represents an entirely new method. “Oxidiser”, with its compound “segments”, nearly resembles a corkscrew. The wine
runs down along the “segments” and splashes into the decanter. This creates a stronger oxidising effect, and the "Oxidiser” is
therefore idea for younger, slightly more pungent wines.
